Back in March 2007 Gordon Brown, then chancellor, announced that he would be adding 2p extra duty to fuel and as an additional result collecting 0.35p extra VAT on every litre sold at the pumps.

In March, October seemed like a sensible time to implement it, after all on the 1st of October 2006 prices for unleaded had fallen from a summer high of 99.5p right down to 87.4p.

You may think I am a cynic, but I think he had calculated this date as about the least controversial date to hit the motorists with yet more tax based on last years prices.

2007 turned out to be different.

Should the government do a U turn and scrap the extra 2.35p tax on fuel because of unexpectedly high oil prices already hitting motorists hard?

October 2007 hasn't quite turned out to be everything that he hoped for. In fact this year, instead of falling from summer highs, the average price of fuel in the UK has stayed steady at around 95p and soon looks set to rise even further with the price of oil reaching record highs of around 80 dollars.

So as it has turned out October 2007 might be the worst time to hit us motorists, and at PetrolPrices.com we want to let the government know how we feel. We have prepared a vote on the right hand side and I hope you will join me in voting for a U-turn on this proposed hike in fuel duty.

With so many PetrolPrices.com users, hopefully the government will have no choice but to sit up and take notice.

at least turpin had the moral to wear a mask this goverment keeps trumpeting the the self employed like me on how we are the backbone of the country but with the likelyhood of over a pound alitre and congestion charges in my area[manchester] how long before we have to give up our living and after find employment elsewere well i suppose someone as to pay for all those poor kids in poland who now can claim family income support now

These people in high power do what they want because at the end of the day...they get what they want, we only matter if there is an election going on and they are running around looking for votes. if we all got together it would make a difference but alas that will never happen here.

another kick in the teeth for road users -easy way to raise taxes ,we pay enough tax on fuel as it is and our Road tax ! running 2 cars is getting so expensive we would now consider selling one .
i watch many huge brand new top executive/company cars fly past me - mr darling should be looking at companies large profits rather than taxing the
average joe through fuel going up!

Posted by Roy Smith, 27th September 2007 8:16pm

Ok so there are too many cars on the roads today, congestion is getting worse on a daily basis, the price of oil has gone up so I am sure that we will be paying over £1 per litre next year, but will any of us stop using our cars? I certainly won't be public transport just isn't good enough.
Although I live just 2 miles from the city centre the transport links to my place of work are non existant. I would need to take 3 busses and then walk for an hour to get there.
Any increases will affect all of us, even the green people that don't own cars.

The part that people is missing, and worries me the most, is the fact that the lorries the supermarkets use to get our food to the shelves use diesel which will in turn impact on the every day cost of living. This is not just about increasing the price of our fuel it is yet another way of increasing the cost of living with taxation without us noticing.

I do not believe for one moment, that this Government are concerned about climate change. This is just another way of justifying another 'stealth tax' upon the people of Britain. I also do not believe they are interested in your health, otherwise, why not ban the sale of tobacco products altogether?

When you increase duty on petrol, you hit the most vunerable people in society. Those with a fat cheque-book will not be affected or concerned by this price rise. How many people do you know that are wealthy? Have they sized their vehicle down to a super-mini? No way.

It is little wonder that we are losing our skilled people to other countries. Rip-Off-Britain is not the place to flourish, it is just a place to survive.

But you must realise that politicians have a hidden agenda. Keep the poor needy and dependable. Stem any rise in growth that might interfere with the upper-class way of life. Politicians only have power while people are needy. The wealthy couldn't care less.

People will not abandon their cars. Instead, they will emigrate to a place that is bigger and better, with a higher standard of living and a better climate. The figures increase every year and continue to rise. Wake up Mr Brown!

If the Cost of Motoring increases in order to take cars off the road, then the roads will be nice and empty for the Rich to enjoy in their Petrol Guzzling Four by Fours, and they can look down on the Paupers waiting at Bus Stops for a Public Transport system that is a Joke!!! ---"Let them eat Cake" jumps to mind!!!

NOTHING ONLY MORE TAX BILLS

Posted by Mark Nuttall, 27th September 2007 8:17pm

The country cannot stand many more price rises, this is why we have inflation. 1st we get higher taxes then we get road tolls and because of this the people that own their own businesses and companies have to raise their prices to cover this. How does this extra tax rise help us???? It doesn't, it simply creates more money for the government to waste and fill their pension jars!!!

Posted by Simon Jauncey, 27th September 2007 8:18pm

Each time the petrol/diesel costs rise, the North of Scotland drivers suffer more. Many live in rural areas with no services, bus, trains, and it just cripples the pockets of people who rely on cars for work, shopping etc. The £1 in the pocket becomes so depleted as cost of living rises and wage rises never equal out. I think it is outrageous how this country tax the working population beyond comprehension. There must be another way of recouping taxes!

Posted by Brycie Grigor, 27th September 2007 8:18pm

Why should we keep contributing to this governments coffers? Do they pay for fuel no they don't. We do in about every tax possible the government take our money but contribute very little of their ownas they have all the expences under the sun to play with so we subsidise them. When it comes time for them to retire we pay their highly inflated pensions which are gold plated and all the time they are laughing all the way to the bank because we are the ones who keep them in the manner to which they have become used to.
It is about time we all stood up to those who take our money and give little if nothing in return.

Posted by Peter Dallen, 27th September 2007 8:18pm

OK...so enough is enough...so let's petition...will it do any good...willl it sway the minds of those in power?...ABSOLUTELY NOT...
never has and never will...petition all you like but you will not influence a government policy...all to do with money. Joe and Josie bloggs need their cars... and even if it isn't NEED, they want THEIR PERSONAL TRANSPORT....and they will pay for it...however much it costs

Posted by Janet Ruff, 27th September 2007 8:19pm

A a rural resident with very limited public transport we have no other option but to have 2 cars.
The Governments mantra on public transport will not work unless you live in central London or other large cities.
Additional fuel tax is yet another tax on those who chose not to live in a city

Posted by Mke Davies, 27th September 2007 8:19pm

what a suprise more tax on fuel,a easy way for the goverment to get some more money out of us
after all who can do without a car these days?????????????

Posted by M.edwards, 27th September 2007 8:20pm

just another rip off the motorist idea, whilst the greedy ministers enjoy their motoring perks i.e. let the tax payer pay for our petrol, and you wonder why the nation calls this place RIP-OFF BRITAIN, we are not so GREAT any more.

Posted by Alfred Webster, 27th September 2007 8:21pm

Enough is enough,we are taxed enough in other ways, I live in a rural area without urban public transport systems, use my car as economically as possible,
Promises of better transport have never been delivered most of these taxes do not go back into transport or the roads, economic conditions should mean this tax is scrapped it will add to inflation, (MY INFLATION) !

Posted by David Liddle, 27th September 2007 8:21pm

This is just an other easy tax increase for the goverment coffers! Think ahead if you want elected Mr Brown!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by D, 27th September 2007 8:21pm

yes it shouldbe scrapped the government are making enough out of the taxes for fuel as i know that only 5p goes to the station forecourts on evry lire petrol.perhaps the government could reduce the taxes and pass it onto the drivers as we are being punished enough.

Posted by Shaun Barnett, 27th September 2007 8:22pm

So crude oil is at its dearest so the oil companies put the price up, a few months ago when it was the cheapest it had ever been did the companies drop the price???
The government is forever having a go at the lowly motorist, more road tax, more tax on the fuel. Britain used to be one of the cheapest places in Europe to buy fuel, now it is the dearest.
They pay very little road tax, if any, abroad, all or most of the tax is on the fuel, the more miles you do, the more fuel you use, the more tax you pay, but there fuel is still a lot cheaper than in this country.
Boycoting the fuel companies is a good idea. Pick one company and dont go to any of its filling stations for a week, then pick another company. See how much profit they loose. Good idea but then the government still gets your TAX. Blockade all the refineries, bring the country to a standstill again, but that price drop only lasted a few months.
I dont know what the answer is but if someone out there does then please let us know.
Doug

Posted by Dougie France, 27th September 2007 8:22pm

We have to produce alternative fuels for cars. Peak oil production has alreay been reached. It would not be too bad if the extra revenue went to companies to reseach and produce such fuel. I doubt if any of this extra money will benifit the motorist , probaly only be wasted on unneccessary wars etc.

Posted by Alan Dutton, 27th September 2007 8:22pm

QUOTE 'Sounds like good news. The number of cars on the road increases steadily every month, poving that income can easily match the increasing cost of motoring. While this luxury is still easily affordable, the government should take advantage of it to generate money for services (which, incidentally, many of the same people spend time complaining about the quality of) used by every single person in this country.

Once motoring prices reach the limit people can afford, people will stop using their cars unless they have no choice, and the government will have to look again at where they generate their income. Tax on fuel will stop increasing. Those who need to drive will get there quicker on quieter roads.

Sounds like everyone gains, to me.'

I take it you do not use your car for business then on average i travel approx 12,000+ Business miles a year. The increase would force to to possibly looking for a new job so no everyone does not gain?

Posted by Ivan Hall, 27th September 2007 8:22pm

we continue to have a sad government that lacks any more imagination to raise taxes other than to hit "the motorist", "the smoker" and "the drinker". It is an easier option to hit minorities and saves them upsetting the majorities.

Amanda with respect you are an idiot!!! Should we apply your stupid logic to non-staple food??? Most of us in the UK can all afford lovely food so why dont the Govt tax everyting other than bread and milk until we all start to die from malnutrition? What about holidays? we don't need them either so lets tax that until no-one flies anymore!!!! (eventually we could, Im sure, find something you enjoy and tax the hell out of it!!).

Do us (non-tree hugging) NORMAL people a favour and think about your idiotic rants until you can think of useful comments! I dont use busses, which incidentally are mostly empty around here, but I dont think they should be banned either despite them coughing out 10x more toxins than my modern, efficient engine!

As for spending, perhaps the Govt should stop spending insane amounts of money pandering to the EU and buy itself some balls. Then perhaps we could save the billions spent on foreign and domestic benefit layabouts and translation services AND still be able to enjoy the things our ancestors fought so hard for us to maintain!!!!

RANT OVER!

This is an absolute joke! If anything there should be a CUT in fuel duty. This "labour" governmentis crippling the british road haulage industry as well as those, like myself, who work shifts and CANNOT use public transport.

Posted by Tommy Bishop, 27th September 2007 8:24pm

Some of us need our cars to earn a living
this price rise is outrageous
Keep up the good work PetrolPrices

Posted by Kevin Hudson, 27th September 2007 8:24pm

The fuel duty increase is another means to tax the hard working majority of people and the government in reality will make the most money from workers on average wages or less.

I have recently read an astounding fact that a single parent working 16 hours per week and receiving benefit will have the same income as a married couple on minimum wage working 116 hours per week. The income from fuel duty will in my opinion simply be added to the 100 billion pound pot of monies that are dished out to benefit claimants who are living very good lifestyles to the cost of the taxpayer.

If any one seriously believes that the fuel duty tax will be spent on improving services for the working person they are very much misled and naive enough to believe the government spin doctors who are getting paid large salaries from the public purse to feather their own nests.

Posted by Paul Grieves, 27th September 2007 8:25pm

The problem is that far to many people are on expenses or allowances in this country which means that those of us at the bottom who actually pay our own way are also busy subsidising politicians and their ilk. Fuel rises are irrelevant to them. They don't have to pay them, we do.

Why does the Gov't penalise us like this. It hits small business and the ordinary man in the street so hard. It's not necessary. They make far more than other Gov't on this element - they just see it as easy money. Stick the taxes on cigarettes, price alcohol out of children's pockets and tax luxury foods etc. Several problems would be solved that way .. crime reduction, funding the NHS etc ... Running a small business isn't a luxury - it provides livings for several families, who then also pay their taxes. If the Gov't runs small businesses into the ground by abusing tax on fuel in this manner, then instead of taking our money in taxes, they'll be paying out benefits. I'll then start smoking and drinking due to depression and run up exhorbitant NHS bills due to poor self inflicted health for the gov't as they've made running a business no longer viable but by providing benefits, they've given me every reason to waste my health and their money. Duh!

Posted by Fi, 27th September 2007 8:26pm

Prices are rising on a variety of goods including food. This Government is intent on taxing the middle classes out of existence whilst the rich escape many taxes. I realise taxes have to be paid but when so much is wasted by the Government and Ministers claiming huge expenses I strongly object, as a pensioner, to paying more to help keep this Government in a manner we would all like to become accustomed to.

Posted by John Bolland, 27th September 2007 8:26pm

How about this ...Government suggested we changed to diesel for lower emmissios when diesel was cheaper than unleaded. more diesels came on the road. what did they do? they raised the price for diesel of course!

Personally i don't think it matters one jot who we vote for it is the same bunch of civil servants that dictate what happens. They just flavour the outcome Red,blue or yellow. Yellow? well if Lib dems ever get in power before eternity, you will certainly pay taxes then like never before! Let us boycott, those of us that can, and withold our labour vote ... maybe that will work!

Posted by Les Oakley, 27th September 2007 8:27pm

I wouldn't mind too much if the tax was used for a proper purpose, but as this government spends it all in red tape, bourochracy and very bad management it will go down the loo with all the other taxes. If the government used the tax money properly they wouldn't need to rip off the motorist again

Posted by Stewart Smith, 27th September 2007 8:27pm

Thi government is anti cars . We are taxed more than any other country. When will the present government learn. It will end with some sort of revolt like the famers did some years ago. Will they then back down. It is about time that they listerned to resonable people's complaints. Wait till all the prices in the shops go up, then we shall she the fireworks from all people, with requests for wage increses to cover the increases. Nothing changes, the extra TAX MUST BE STOPPED

Posted by Alan Dutton, 27th September 2007 8:28pm

Us motorists are easy targets for money making, the government know that what ever prices they put on fuel and road tax will be paid because we will always use our cars. Many of us like myself couldn't live without a car, the time i have in between work to do shopping and anything else could not be done by public transport and be time efficient.

We are always SMACKED with over priced fuel and always will be

What can we do?

Fuel strikes again?????? Who knows??????

Posted by Paul Wallwork, 27th September 2007 8:28pm

Enough is enough, it's time we stopped being fleeced by this government, at every opportunity they tax us openly and by stealth, and to rub salt in the wound give themselves a rise and inflation proof pensions.

Posted by Ronald Reading, 27th September 2007 8:28pm

Quite simply enough is enough. All the political parties are as bad as each other, they hit the captive motoring population at every opportunity and we let them do it. We can whine and talk all we want but at the end of the day they will do what they want with fuel prices. We need to block deliveries, boycott separatetely individual fuel companies and this time do it properly not like the half hearted token we had last time. We have been stuffed enough.

Posted by Alan Matkin, 27th September 2007 8:29pm

The motorist is a soft touch where this Government is concerned. Speed cameras everywhere earning a fortune for someone and very high fuel tax. We must be such a load of idiots to keep taking it all, but there seems no end. Let's hope your vote at least makes someone stop and think. Keep up the good work.

I am sick of this goverment using global warming to keep puting taxes up
apart from anything else the climate has always changed and about now we are due for the next ice age, so maybe we should use more fuel to keep the planet warm

Fuel duty is based on a % of the fuel cost - so if fuel prices rise so does the tax. This increase in duty is tantermount to theft.

I'm a Pensioner to start with and disabled (emphysema) as well but although I am still capable of driving, I don't - I can't afford it, even before the proposed increase. I wish I was younger and a cross channel truck driver, that way I could purchase fuel in Europe and give the profits to the European companies and Governments (who still seem to manage to provide better services at lower prices, e.g. health, than the English government).

I have already pased your site address to my friends, and will do so again.

Posted by Rob Mcclintock, 27th September 2007 8:30pm

where will it stop, high fuel prices, road tax, car insurance ????
our allies over the pond would not put up with this, in the usa they would vote this lot out of government (congress). what is the point in working hard to drive a nice a car, pay higher taxes on your pay, to pay it again just to get to work, therefore we get taxed twice just to work???

Posted by John Brannigan, 27th September 2007 8:33pm

This government have shown time and again that is easier to tax the law abiding than it is to persue the very rich who escape taxation on their millions, motorists and inheritance tax being prime examples, greed & laziness = Gordon Brown + the late Mr Bliar.

Posted by Andy Mercer, 27th September 2007 8:33pm

Having read some of the comments placed already, for the lady who said driving is a luxury ,yes it may be in the city ,but not for those of us who need cars in the rural areas which have totally rubbish public transport and are already paying higher fuel prices than the urban areas.Do people who make comments like this live in the real world ,fuel price hikes like this have a knock on effect across the board ,with other prices going up to cover transport prices . Yes i would like to see less private vehicles on the road ,but until the government puts the horse before the cart and speends money improving A. Public Transportand make it cheaper for people to use. and B. A better way to get goods around the country and encourage companies to source locally. .People will continue to use their cars

I have no choice, I have to go by car. As a disabled person, and sometimes wheelchair user, I can't walk to the bus-stop.
I can't stand for 20 minutes until a bus decides to turn up late.
I can't carry 6 bags of Tesco shopping home the ½mile from the bus-stop to my bungalow.
I have to take the children to school in the car, as they're not old enough to walk by themselves, and I'm not fit enough to walk with them. (USA style Yellow School Busses anyone?)
For me, a car is essential, without one, I'd be housebound or completely reliant on someone else who did have a car. I'm 36, nowhere near old enough to be resigned to spending the rest of my life as a recluse!

Posted by Hellena Handbasket, 27th September 2007 8:34pm

The rise shouldnt go ahead. Its ok for the M P's, to say use public transport, we live in Gilwern, my wife works in Crickhowell, and cant get a bust to work , or back. I work in Brecon, shifts, weekends as well, I cant get a bus to or fro. Therefore , we need to run 2 cars, not as we want to, we both HAVE to work, and therefore need a car each, so to do an honest days work, each, we have to be clobbered by excesseive road tax, spiraling M O T's, and Insuranece, plus excesseive fuel prices. Yet, when we watch News clippings on T V, and see the size cars the MP 's are useing, running costs also paid by US , hard working JOE PUBLIC.

Posted by Mr K R Abbott, 27th September 2007 8:34pm

The average motorist covers 9,600 miles per year

The average car achieves 37.8 mpg and uses up 254 gallons per annum

The fuel tax increase equates to 10.8p per gallon

The average motorist will therefore pay an extra £27.50 per year or 7.5p per day.

I'm struggling to see why these modest numbers are getting you all to vent so much spleen.

How can we revolt against this? we're not french, we'll be anoyed, get angry, swear at the Tv or newspapers when the increase is anounced, but then we'll either sleep on it or someone from big brother will do something stupid in the news and we'll forget all about it and keep on paying (just like we have with the slow increases all year). We didn't back the HGV drivers of a few years ago when they revolted over the same cost of fuel as now.

Use public transport!!! You'd see a Plumber or an electrician with all their gear getting on the bus or train to go to work. No wonder we're the joke of europe and so many of us are leaving.

I would like to remind MP's that there are towns and cities in the UK other than London where the majority of us live who cannot use public transport to get to work, I tried it once it took me 3 and a half hours to do a 50 mile journey that takes me 1 hour in the car. Not everyone lives where they work.

I'm sometimes ashamed to call myself British because we have NO back bone to do ANYTHING about ANYTHING.

We should protest now and dare Gordon to have an election.

We have to face this. The Great British Public is a pushover. To the Newspapers, the Police, The Politicians et al. I am not saying that Brown, Harmon, Darling and Read ( What happened to him, he has not been in the news of late ) are crooks, far from it, I think they are just well meaning morons. There they are, and here we are, the public, just daring them to take advantage of us. And they have. And they will.
Unfortunately, booting them out of office would only bring out another bunch of well spoken scavengers.

Posted by Lenny Louise, 27th September 2007 8:36pm

Talk of "people doing without their cars" is nonsense. It's alright if you're just ferrying the kids round the corner to school ( make them walk) or popping into town for a hairdo, but if you actually have to work using your car, there is no feasible alternative. I work for myself and recently undertook a trip lasting 3 1/2 days, during which I saw clients in Manchester, North Wales, Lincolnshire, The Midlands, South Wales and the London area. This is quite typical for travelling business people.
To have done that by public transport would, I estimate, have taken nearly two weeks and involved many nights in hotels, instead of the two I was compelled to spend. The cost would have been astronomical.
In addition, I would not have been able to do other work, which I did at home on my return.
Why not tax tools or computers or other essential work items?
It's just the madness of a desperate Government, who have generated so much debt that they are forced tp tax anything they can get away with.

Posted by Rupert Wilson, 27th September 2007 8:36pm

The ever-increasing price of fuel is a fact of life for the future until vast extra oilfields are found or an alternative fuel for the combustion engine is discovered. The price of fuel is exacerbated by the instability in the Middle East and the need for the Government to raise revenue for its crackpot social, politically correct and inclusive policies which favour everyone except the indiginous Brits. I cannot see any change happening in the future. So we will have to keep digging into our pockets and a time will come when those who currently can just afford to run our cars will no longer be able to do so. We will then be forced onto an antiquated, non-integrated, transport system whilst the rich continue to drive their polluting gas-guzzlers on deserted roads

I work in the nhs and the amount of money spent on directors salaries and managers is incredible one only has to look on the internet to see the lists of vacancies with huge salaries for IT consultants and senior managers etc to understand where your taxes are being spent. The front line staff who actually work on the wards are getting less and less in number. Please don't believe the hype that staff are increasing. Your precious money that you spend on fuel tax is
being wasted on more managers and spin doctors than you can possibly ever imagine.

I have never understood why this accountant and his monkey cohorts could take charge of our money and the stewardship in the UK. Shame on them. I deeply resent having such a charisma-by-passed joker putting his hands into my pockets and his doomed dull do-gooder-manners over our country.

I live about 400Mtrs from one of the biggest refineries in Europe and apparently one in 6 cars in Britain fill up on fuel refined there. Most Independent fuel retailers get their supplies from there, and certainly all Esso Garages (Catch my Drift). Blockade the refinery, I say.

Without a doubt though there will be a law against this, as it stops the Government collecting revenue be it at the pumps, or cos the company can't deliver thus losing the sale. Also, the most expensive prices are actually in the local vicinity, even at the local Tesco!

Yep we're all mugs and unless we stand up for ourselves we are going to be ripped off, rolled over, and kicked the Sh*t out of by this nanny state who dosn't want us to enjoy our reward for being one of the hardest working nations in the world!

But that's probably because if we didn't work so hard we'd all be on benefit!!!

Let's do it!

Make your voice heard at the next General Election, if this same old issue drives you so mad. The way of all revenue raisers now is go for the easy target, no matter petrol, insurance, tvlicence, electricity, gas blah blah. Its so disturbing at times but underneath when you really think about it, its going to stay this way as long as our national consciousness and historical values remain of any importance to us. Nonetheless, the regularity of these raises must only fuel the demise of steady and trustworthy values in our bizarre society.

why dont they just hammer us working class into pulp the cost of everything goes up every week but the wages do not. When fuel goes up so does food and everything transported by road.

It would be cheaper to roll over and play dead but then the cost of that has risen !!!!

When you live in the country you have little choice but to use a vehicle to make a living. Yet another increase in stealth tax.

Both my wife and I are pensioners, dependent on the state pension and a small private pension, and do not qualify for any state benefit due to " excessive " savings. My wife cannot walk any distance due to a faulty knee and is waiting surgery. The car is our lifeline, and although our monthly mileage is only about 300, it is getting more and more difficult to run a car with nothing left to cut down on to make up the extra expense. Add to that, the increasing cost of food, ( just check your supermarket list) and life gets difficult.

OMG! its okay for MP's they have expense accounts i really don't think they have a clue how "normal" people live at all. Revolution sounds like a good idea to me! lol :)

we get tax for the roads we use which a sub-standard, we have to pay MOT's, we pay tax on fuel, we pay VAT on the vehicles we drive (if your buying brand new, hopefully one day I'll be able to afford a brand new one lol). WE pay tax on our earnings, we get taxed on our savings, Christ we even pay atx when we die! this country taxes us to death!

Let ICI Cemicals loose, I do believe they can manufacter a gallon of petrol for a few pence, A £1 a litre is nothing short of daylight robbery, only governments can get away with it.

It occurs to me that those who think public transport should replace the car are not old enough to have experienced travel during the public transport era, i.e. the 1950's and earlier. Public transport is atrocious- you want coughs and colds ?- you'd get em. Busses are an obsolete anachronism- inefficient and more polluting than cars, trundling around for 18 hours each day, on average less than half full- even in the fifties. The family car is a necessity, and potentially very efficient. What's needed is a policy to provide more multi-storey car parks as a lot of traffic in cities consists of people looking for somewhere to park. If the petrol price increase was earmarked for this purpose I would be in favour of it.

I am afraid this price increase, as with all of the other rises, is just another example of the arrogance of our politicians. I feel sure that they see themselves as rulers of this country of OURS and not governors put there by us. The "Environmental" gag is the excuse that has been and will be used is a blatant falsehood as the money raised is not used for any such purpose. The continual tax hikes in fuel prices will eventually mean that only the very well off will be able to afford to own/drive a car and travel by plane to holiday destinations so how does that sit with the Socialist Policy of fair treatment for all. I have to travel 30 miles to work 5 days a week with no fuel allowance and no ability to get to work on "Public" transport. Will I eventually have to give up this employment and fall upon the state to support me and house me ? Come on Conservatives an opening for you to jump in.
On the subject of the last Fuel Protest, the organiser has been remarkably quiet since then, was he got at I wonder ?
