GEM Breakdown Cover GEM Motoring Assist started out as the Company of Veteran Motorists in 1932, to tackle the rising number of road accidents. They continued under this name until 1983, when it was rebranded as the Guild of Experienced Motorists, which became more commonly known as the GEM. In 2004 the name was officially amended to GEM Motoring Assist and they now have over 60,000 members.
