About The AA

The AA was formed on June 29th 1905 by a group of motoring enthusiasts who met at the Trocadero restaurant in London’s West End. They formed the Automobile Association, whose intitial intention was to to help motorists avoid police speed traps. This year saw The AA celebrating its centenary anniversary.

In 1967, The AA insurance broking service was introduced. In 1973, AA Relay was launched. This service guaranteed to transport any seriously broken-down vehicle along with it’s driver, passengers, luggage and caravan or trailer to any destination in Britain.

The AA also offer hotel, restaurant and B&B certification, a driving school and insurance. They also offer a range of online discounts, depending on the cover.
