Shell beats Tesco and Asda with lowest UK fuel prices

01st February 2006

PetrolPrices.com exclusively reveals the cheapest fuel stations in the United Kingdom. Contrary to popular belief, supermarkets have missed out on the top spot and it is fuel giant Shell that leads the way, consistently showing up in the table for top 100 lowest priced fuel stations over the last three months. (Shell represented 26% of the top 100).

Simon Grimsell, Sales & Operations Manager, Shell UK Retail commented, "Shell is delighted that the petrolprices.com website demonstrates that Shell sells some of the most competitively priced fuel in the UK. Shell is determined to remain at the forefront of providing competitively priced, quality fuel to its customers."

Whilst Shell leads the way with the lowest priced fuel, the supermarkets still represent great value, collectively winning the price war this quarter (October to December) with an enormous 53% share of the Top 100. They were followed by the high street petrol brands representing 46% of the share, leaving the independents with only 1%.

"Petrol Prices change daily, on occasion the major oil companies will be the cheapest and other times it's the supermarkets. Over 250,000 motorists have now stopped driving around to find the best fuel price as they receive the best prices straight to their email box. It is clear the site is not now just saving people money but is also saving time and possibly helping the environment by preventing unnecessary journeys to find the best priced fuel" remarked Brendan McLoughlin, Managing Director, PetrolPrices.com
