Unleaded and Diesel reach an all time high

19th July 2006

ALDERSHOT, UK (Petrolprices.com) Today, PetrolPrices.com can reveal the average unleaded petrol price has now breached the previous 97.6 pence on May 26th of this year. The average UK unleaded price rose a further 0.3 pence yesterday hitting 97.71 pence per litre a new all time high. In addition to the record price of unleaded, diesel too has met an all time high of 99.21 pence per litre.

The recent rises have followed the price for crude oil which has been rising fast as a result of the situation in the Middle East and the prospect of potential supply problems.

We entered 2006 with just 88.6p per litre of unleaded fuel and some six months into the year we have experienced an increase in excess of 10%.

Although the national average is at an all time high Petrol Prices.com can still help you save on your fuel purchases. During this unsettling period the data provided by the site it is now at its most valuable. With the difference of 9.2 pence per litre on unleaded and 9.7 pence per litre on diesel there is still the opportunity to save.

It is vital that motorists use the website to shop around. The hope is that with more people using the site adding to the 500,000 currently doing so the oil companies and governments alike will realise what a top priority fuel pricing is for the people of the UK

Brendan McLoughlin co-founder of PetrolPrices.com commented "This is bad news for Britain's motorists; with increases in crude oil only looking set to continue coupled with the violence in the Middle East we will see some sharp increases in the coming weeks".

Petrol Prices.com strongly recommends that motorists do not panic buy as this will only create a worse situation. The message is shop around and be satisfied that you are opting for the cheapest propositions
