98% of motorists pay too much for fuel

Tuesday 25th July 2006

Over 500k UK motorists are now checking prices online prior to buying fuel however, this only represents 1 in 60 of the total motoring population.

With the UK average cost per litre of fuel lingering very close to the £1 mark and the variance across the UK currently at 10.7p there is a great opportunity for motorists to pay less simply by using the web before they set out to find the cheapest fuel in their area.

In light of the record profits announced by the major oil companies we urge the other 31.5 million motorists to adopt the concept of www.petrolprices.com and save money.

Kay Joyce, Media and Trade Relations Manager for the website commented, "With petrol prices increasing so rapidly we at petrolprices.com are urging the consumer to be more vigilant and not pay more than they have to"

Notes for Editors

Petrolprices.com is the UK’s only comprehensive and free fuel price website for consumers, where they can find the cheapest petrol stations near any town or postcode of their choice. Prices are updated daily and displayed conveniently using Google Maps technology.

At the time of writing the difference between the highest price (104.9p) and the lowest price (83.9p) for unleaded petrol in the UK was 21p.

Petrolprices.com was launched in November 2005 by Fubra Limited, the same company that launched the largest UK house price website www.ourproperty.co.uk in January of this year.
