The RAC was founded in 1897, and introduced uniformed patrols in 1901 and roadside emergency telephone boxes in 1912.

The RAC has over six million members and offer BSM driving school, online route planning and insurance.

RAC offer five breakdown cover options; Roadside, Solution 1, Solution 2, Solution 3 and Solution 4.

Roadside

This option offers roadside assistance anywhere in the UK, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, if you are at least a quarter of a mile from home. If your car cannot be fixed at the roadside, RAC will tow it to a nearby RAC approved garage. Also included is accident care, offering help and advice in the event of an accident.

Solution 1

The same as Roadside, but includes transport for you, your car and up to seven passengers to any UK destination if you car cannot be fixed locally. You can also build up a no call-out discount of up to 50%.

Solution 2

The same as Solution 1, but without recovery of you, your car and up to seven passengers. Includes breakdown cover outside your own home.

Solution 3

The same as Solution 1, with breakdown assistance outside your own home.

Solution 4

The same as Solution 3, but includes transportation for your car to any UK destination and RAC will arrange for either a replacement car for up to three days while your car is repaired; overnight accommodation; onward travel by taxi or plane with a maximum value of £150 per person or £500 for a group.
