The AA was formed on June 29th 1905 by a group of motoring enthusiasts who met at the Trocadero restaurant in London's West End. They formed the Automobile Association, whose intitial intention was to to help motorists avoid police speed traps. This year saw The AA celebrating its centenary anniversary.

In 1967, The AA insurance broking service was introduced. In 1973, AA Relay was launched. This service guaranteed to transport any seriously broken-down vehicle along with it's driver, passengers, luggage and caravan or trailer to any destination in Britain.

The AA also offer hotel, restaurant and B&B certification, a driving school and insurance.

The AA offer 4 different breakdown cover options; Option 100, Option 200, Option 300 and Option 400.

Option 100

This covers breakdown assistance if you are more than a quarter of a mile from your home. If the vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside, the vehicle and driver will be taken home or to a garage, depending which is nearest.

Option 200

The same as Option 100, but including Relay. If The AA cannot arrange a prompt repair, you, your car and up to seven passengers will be transported home, or to any mainland UK destination.

Option 300

The same as Option 200, but with Home Start. This provides assistance at home, or within a quater of a mile of it.

Option 400

The same as Option 400, but with Relay Plus. This provides either a replacement car for up to 48 hours, overnight accommodation, or onward travel if it isn't possible to repair the car locally.
