Has the Budget been postponed to push through a fuel duty rise unchallenged?

In just 2 weeks fuel duty will rise again, bringing the total tax paid at the pumps to 71 pence in every pound - despite Prime Minister Gordon Brown promising not to raise fuel duty.

Watch Brown pledge to freeze fuel duty. (1.40m - 2.02m)

Fuel duty is set to rise by roughly 2 pence per litre on April 1st meaning that 66 pence of the average litre of fuel goes directly to the Treasury.

Fuel tax goes into a central government tax pot. It's not necessarily allocated back out to motoring, so fuel tax can be spent on anything – the NHS, housing, pensions or even banking bailouts.

At the height of soaring pump prices Brown made a promise during Prime Minister's Questions on July 16th 2008 not to raise fuel duty for a year.

He stated: "In recognition of the problem people face with petrol, we are freezing duty on petrol for the full year."

Brown broke this promise in December 2008 when he added 2 pence per litre to fuel duty to offset the reduction of VAT to 15% - a move which angered UK hauliers who are able to claim fuel VAT back, but not fuel duty.

He is set to break the promise for a second time on April 1st when fuel duty on unleaded and diesel will rise 1.84 pence per litre. Including the additional 15% VAT on top this will make the rise at the pumps around 2 pence per litre.

The Treasury have said that the only time further changes to fuel duty can take place are at the next Budget – which has been postponed from March until April 22nd, after the duty rise comes in.

Do you think the Budget has been postponed to push through a duty rise unchallenged? Do you think it's fair that 71% of the cost of a litre of fuel goes directly to the Treasury? Should Brown be held to account for breaking his promise not to raise fuel duty? Leave a comment below and let us know your thoughts.

No change then............... usual load of lies from idiot BROWN

Yet again Gordon Brown does his best to bring the Country out of recession, by hitting the average man and woman where it hurts.
Roll on a General Election!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Simon Kohler, 18th March 2009 6:12pm

Why, Oh Why, after all the mess do some MPs with any common sense not see the light and raise a vote of no confidence in the government to get them out as soon as possible so we can at least start the repairs to the economy which has debts of over £17,000 for every adult and child in the UK and this debt is not only ours, it is also our children's and grandchildren's debt. All when Brown started with a zero balance of payments dept. It has to be paid back, with interest and a weak pound. What is the ulterior motive - join the EU, adopt the euro and remove the last bits of control the British people have in deciding their own affairs and future. Someone said he was a good chancellor? Any accountant or economist with half brain will tell you that we are a lot worse off now than we have ever been. I am not surprised Brown has gone back on his word regarding fuel tax. He signed Britain over to the EU without giving us a vote which was promised and was an election manifesto, so tax on fuel is small fry to him.

Posted by Ken Good, 18th March 2009 6:13pm

Yes - Brown should be held to account. He's lied to the British public and he should go now. It's scandalous how they take our money.

Posted by Linda Goodwin, 18th March 2009 6:13pm

Did any sensible motorist really believe that this Government would not stealthily raise the duty, particularly if it thought that our attention would be focused elsewhere. Failures in policy all over the shop will ensure that this Government will continue to cheat those who pay most!!

Posted by Terence Williams, 18th March 2009 6:13pm

Perhaps the it would be better to raise money for the treasury by putting a greater taax on fuel guzzlers. Low income people who drive smaller cars would then be left out of the tax net.

Posted by Lance, 18th March 2009 6:14pm

I agree that the "full year" should mean 12 months from when it was said but Gordon Brown is the biggest liar of a Prime minister we have ever had - so who can trust anything he says.

Anyway, regardless of this, he should have the common sense to see that continuing with the fuel duty rise and the VAT increase (plus whatever he might add in the forthcoming budget) is going to do little to ease food prices (nmuch of which is transportation costs) or to put more money in our pockets to help the economy to recover.

Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling, regardless of common sense and the will of the people, will continue to tax, tax, tax.

Please let the General Election come sooner than later so we can get a decent government.

I can only think that this flailing Government want to put the majority of small businesses out of business, an dinflict yet more pain on those living in isolated areas that have virtually no public transport. Having succeeded in closing small and local businesses this will leave high streets run down and neglected full of empty shops, or yet more charity shops.

If only I were young enough to leave the UK

Diesel is taxed so much in this country because everyone was switching over to it when it was cheap. Now that a lot of diesel cars have been sold the public are now held to ransom for buying a cheaper to run car.

No matter who runs this country they will hammer the British motorist. Remember it was the Tory government that introduced the 2p a litre tax. Every time tax was raised on fuel, i.e. 1p added to the cost, and then it was automatically raised to 3p at the pumps. If it went up 2p then it was 4p at the pumps. This is why the fuel costs so much nowadays. The Labour government eventually scrapped this tax but have still managed to get the cost of it sky high.

What gets me is that before the fuel price rises the average diesel price was around 80p and at the end of it we were paying around £1.28 per litre. The cost of crude is now a lot cheaper than before the rises, yet the average price is 97p a litre. Now why isn't everyone screaming over this? In fact the cost of Diesel should back around the 45-50p a litre mark as it is cheaper than before the Gulf War!

Governments adding tax to fuel will always happen as we are sitting ducks. It's like death, it's a certainty.

Every business park is on the outskirts of somewhere. No town centre companies anymore so of course you need a car as these new parks are impossible to get to via public transport. I can't get a bus to where I work 40 miles away (which used to be a 12 mile journey until the government handed out incentives to companies to move to deprived areas to boost the local economy so my journey distance rocketed over night) and to get a train would take over 4 hours because there is no direct route and I still wouldn't get into work before 10:30am!

So what am I? A sitting duck needing a car to earn a crust so of course I'm being taxed to the hilt on fuel as I need to buy it. I'm an easy target.

Unfortunately, no matter what you say or do nothing will change any government when it comes to taxation.

Gordon Brown, Prime Minister.

Once a liar, always a liar.

Posted by Brian John Dudley, 18th March 2009 6:15pm

This country is going to grind to a halt. Another tax rise can only hasten the demise of many companies and raise the unemployment levels further.

Posted by Mara Sheldon, 18th March 2009 6:15pm

yet again labour attack the motorist the easy target they prove once again they do not care about us how can the economy grow when we all spend more on fuel so all things will get more expensive are they trying to kill this country we cant all use public transport

Posted by Richard Hodgson, 18th March 2009 6:16pm

This tax increase will do nothing but harm to an already crippled British industry. Undoubtedly more smaller businesses will go into liquidation and the price of food and othetr basic commodities will increase again.

This is just typical of the Governement handling its finances badly again. Why not decrease the aid that we provide other other countries and reduce subsidies in other non essential areas. A further rise in fuel tax may well prove to be catastrophic.

Posted by Mark Davies, 18th March 2009 6:16pm

ITS ALL WE CAN EXPECT NOW. AS A NATION OF PEOPLE WE LET ANYONE AND ANYTHING WALK ALL OVER US. WE TRY HARD BUT WE ARE ALL SO BUSY NOW TRYING TO MAKE ENDS MEET WE WILL CHALK IT UP TO EXPERIENCE ONCE AGAIN.FUEL IN THE NORTH EAST HAS RISEN BY 7.9P PER LITRE IN THE 3 MONTHS SINCE TESCO SAID IT WAS DROPPING THE PRICE TO 82.9P

HOW IRONIC THAT THEY WHERE ALSO THE FIRST TO PUT IT BACK CAUSING THE LATEST PRICE HIKES.

WE ALL KNOW IT IS THE PETROL STATIONS PROFITERING BY LOCAL PRICE FIXING BUT AGAIN WHAT THE HELL CAN WE DO TO STOP THIS HAPPENING.
THE GOVERMENT WONT GET INVOLVED BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL FOR IT.

AND VOTING TORY WONT FIX IT EITHER. JUST A REVOLUTION LEFT THEN!!!

Its so sad to see the rise in fuel tax again, at a time when the credit crunch is hitting so many businesses and individuals. Onlty today, record jobless totals highlight the burden everyone is under, whilst having to cope with increased prices in everything from food to fuel.
It is time the government stopped kicking people when they are already down.
What is needed is more encouragement to develop alternatives to fossil fuel for transport, or would that spoil the budget's relance on tax revenue from these fuels. They need to recognise now that it won't be around much longer.
Why not add more tax on to their own pay instead!!

Posted by Nick Jewkes, 18th March 2009 6:16pm

Have just returned from Australia and seen the difference in pump price for diesel. Can't help but feel we're being taken for mugs in this country with the ever increasing price of fuel and massive duty paid on our fuel. Husband works with oil industry and has charted the falling price of crude oil which surprise, surprise is not reflected at the pump.
The government views motorists and the haulage industry as easy targets to get money from.

Posted by Cathy Fletcher, 18th March 2009 6:17pm

It's nothing less than can be expected from an unscrupulous Labour government I hope the middle class vote that put them there are happy that they have put in place a party that can break promises with no regard for the general electorate. I'm sick of this government who are unable to provide a straight forward honest answer to questions put to them, who claim that the financial irregularities of their members are 'genuine' mistakes when all other parties are sleaze, funny how they are genuine mistakes when they are found out, how many more go unnoticed?

Posted by Geoff Brigden, 18th March 2009 6:17pm

This is typical Brown Government style; the public have had enough of his stealth taxes and weak management of the Country's finances. Fortunately he's on his way out now and is just banging the last few nails into the coffin lid, before he and his Party are sidelined.

Posted by John Warren, 18th March 2009 6:17pm

Brown's broken another promise ? Surely not ? . People - understand clearly that when this disgraceful Labour Administration bailed out all the incompetent buffoons in the Financial Industry 'last month', then the coffers have to be filled to actually pay for that, 'next month.'

Thats where the 'commoners' like you and I come on. And the 'commoner motorist' is one of the easiest to hit in the pocket, as are the poor blokes trying to make a very modest living in the haulage business.

If I broke promises ( i.e. LIED ) at my work, I'd get the boot.
Time for a radical change people, and I dont mean the 'Mirror-Labour Party & Cameron'. We're long overdue a wide-reaching shake up in how this Pathetic mess of a Country is run. Brown, you.. your idiot predecessor and your colleagues and cronies are a total joke.
Get out, and don't bother to look back - you'll not be missed, Liar.

Posted by Martyn Jenkins, 18th March 2009 6:17pm

T Johnstone - why bring in the Torys' and the fuel duty escalator? They went out of power 10 years ago, government policies are not set in stone, Labour have had many years to reverse the upward duty trend if they wished. And Why is diesel is so much more than petrol??

Posted by Sukh, 18th March 2009 6:18pm

gordon brown and this government should not be trusted they are irresponsible and shpuld not be allowed to try and run this country, i say to try because thats what they are doing trying, and thats what they are very trying, absolute thieves of the highest calibre, take, take, take, lie, lie, lie.

Posted by Mamalcolm Clark, 18th March 2009 6:18pm

Just another sickening blow to pensioners. This is the usual underhand devious tactic you can expect from a right wing government.

Posted by Kenneth Sims, 18th March 2009 6:18pm

I am appalled at this government even thinking of raising taxes . I suppose they need this revenue to help prop up the banking system.

Posted by Christine Diane Allsop, 18th March 2009 6:18pm

This is the trade mark of a Labour government that has lost touch with reality. While they are very soft on massive bonuses paid to failed banks directors (saved by tax payer money), they also showing bullish behaviour towards working people. I am not saying that the other side would do better, but there is only one thing to be done at the next election. VOTE THEM OUT...

Posted by Carlo Bartolucci, 18th March 2009 6:19pm

I am having trouble believing anything this Government says about fuel duty. All you hear are statements that are later retracted or clarified to mean the reverse. They always finish by assuring the public that they feel our pain

Now, instead of hauliers taking the vanguard in fuel protests and risking prosecution from state influenced police on any spurious misdemeanor, why not arrrange a national and periodical NO FUEL PURCHASE DAY in protest against the ongoing bleeding of the motorist and Haulier alike. This could be arranged thriough the webs various blog sites.I feel this may have a bigger impact and raise the profile without the usual few sticking their necks on the line for the many who reap the benefit.

Just imagine,EVERY filling stations forecourt empty for 24hrs.

How long would it take for them to FEEL OUR PAIN??

Posted by Alan Buckley, 18th March 2009 6:19pm

Yet again this government has broken it's promis on raising fuel tax, what a surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Francis Joseph Nolan, 18th March 2009 6:20pm

We are in a recession, that means that everything should be getting cheaper, not going up in price!

Posted by Robert Vaughan, 18th March 2009 6:20pm

we can only wait till the election then we can have our say to gordon brown

Posted by Geoff Davies, 18th March 2009 6:20pm

How do they get away with it. What other item carries a 70% tax burden. It's an absolute disgrace.

Posted by David Purser, 18th March 2009 6:21pm

You all seem very upset. The answer is simple. Be a bit more French !!

They don't seem to take any BS off their government ... They've had one revolution so their Government knows to watch it's step !

I think our Government seems to have forgotten who it works for !!! Me and You.

Time we had a National strike .... And don't get me going on the Banks. Another set of wasters trying to make a fast buck, and look who's paying the bill !!!

The only Bright side is "Gormless Brown" has to go at some point along with his inept government and their Spend it like Beckham ways !!

Since "NEW LOBOUR" came to power they have taxed us beyond belief so why should they change now the only way to stop this DAYLIGHT ROBBERY is to vote them out at the next General Election

Posted by Chris May, 18th March 2009 6:21pm

All I can say is that the pips have been squeezed as far as we can let them. Its time someone stood up for motorists. I sell cars and it's hard at present, all the manufacturers are putting up prices by vast amounts.. Why ? nobodys buying new cars anyway and more duty on fuel is just going to make maters worse. With the price of crude today we should be getting much cheaper pump prices as it is !!! And can someone explain why diesel has to be dearer than petrol ? It isn't in Europe.

Posted by Phil Dipple, 18th March 2009 6:22pm

I do not believe a word this Prime Minister (or his Government) says - if he said his name was Gordon Brown I would have to think about it! I new that the price drop at the pumps would not last long but I think the Big Guns like BP, who are making billions, could help us all out.

Posted by Brian Herschell, 18th March 2009 6:23pm

Screwed again, so much for helping us out of recession more like an easy target for extra revenue.

Posted by Andy Essex, 18th March 2009 6:23pm

Why are people shocked at this? Haven't we seen how this Government and treasury lapdogs run this country to the ground. Maybe the Government will ban Pensioners and the Low paid from having cars, they may as well, it's becoming too Taxing to own a car for some. Please don't say use Public transport, that's a dead end.

Posted by J Greenall, 18th March 2009 6:23pm

Just bought a diesel Motorhome, thankfully it is much cheaper in Europe so my holiday plans will not put revenue in Uncle Gordon's pocket.

Posted by Cliff Sellers, 18th March 2009 6:23pm

Does he ever keep his promises on anything. Petrol prices have been going up over the last few weeks, and yet you do not hear of oil prices going up.
No the poor old driver is being hit once again. It would not be so bad if the money raised from petrol and the road fund license was used to give us better roads. I am utterly disgusted with the way Mr. Brown treats the people in the land.

Posted by George Bodilly, 18th March 2009 6:24pm

One word - disgusting. No doubt its to help the environment whilst airports are allowed to expand all around the country!

Posted by Paul Heare, 18th March 2009 6:24pm

Just another example of the balls up of government and how they consider motorists the easily bail out for their mistakes.

Thinks they wont be happy till they totally destroyed the Country and everone in it.... mass unemployment for all....They are there to run the Country more like their trying to make the country the hardest place to live in and wont be satified till they achiever it.... whats it goint to be like when every one , nearly , is unemployed and cannot afford to live... If they keep it up and dont sort the Country , Brussels have threatened to take control , is that good or bad, do thery not want to sit , watch and let the Country go down , which taxation is going to tax exsitance downwards.... what do they expect to achieve by tax up up up......

Posted by P D Marshall, 18th March 2009 6:25pm

I believe the government is in total denial about the present state of our financial problems. This country is in very serious trouble with almost everyone(except people in the Cocoon of Parliament) having to tighten their belts. There is a real chance of mass starvation in this country and yet still Gordon Brown squeezes the poor(literally) taxpayer for the sweat of his brow. Putting up fuel tax again will only hamper the economic recovery and make the lives of people more intolerable.

Posted by Roger Bailey, 18th March 2009 6:25pm

so when will the motorist ever get any good news with the goverment.

Posted by Gurdeep Grewal, 18th March 2009 6:26pm

I think its just awful to be so sneaky and when the country is in the grip of a recession its just the wrong thing to do

Posted by Jason Park, 18th March 2009 6:26pm

At a time when the country can least afford it the Brown the Burglar strikes once again. This man and his cronies are a disgrace to the country. Bring on the next election!

Posted by Nigel Von Tunzelman, 18th March 2009 6:26pm

It's a disgrace, but one we should be well used to know. To go back on your word once is bad enough, to do it twice, just confirms his dismissiveness of the Nation. He's just trying to crawl back some funds from his other mess - the VAT policy!

Posted by J.salt, 18th March 2009 6:26pm

And yet again the idiot PM decides that the motorists should pay for all his mistakes. Why do they make us such an easy target.

In the long run this will help immigration at least, who the hell is gonna wanna come here to get robbed at every chance, the Govt is now an official joke

Posted by Shaun Singh, 18th March 2009 6:27pm

It beggars belief that we are letting the government do this to the driving population. Petrol prices have started to creep up yet again although th ebarrel price has gone down - shouldn't the government make the petrol companies pass on these saving to the lowly drivers instead of punishing us all - with duty going up so does food!

Posted by Ann , 18th March 2009 6:27pm

Once again the government displays it's misunderstanding of a very simple procedure; the more money it costs hauliers to get products into stores, the more money the stores charge people for the products.

By raising fuel duty AGAIN, the government demonstrates it's reluctance to help people out of the global recession. I have recently been made redundant and the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of that ignorant man who was never elected to power, Gordon Brown. Both himself and his band of merry idiots should visit planet earth from time to time and then take a walk along Britains streets.

I'm sick of being looked at as an open wallet just because im a motorist. Brown and that other dithering imbecile, Alistair Darling, need to look at other ways to generate money and if they can't find it perhaps they might consider spending the money they do have a little more wisely. Like the rest of us have to.

Roll on the next election, while it may be a case of ' Meet the new boss, same as the old boss ', i don't care. I just want to see Labour gone gone GONE.

Posted by Steve Eaton, 18th March 2009 6:27pm

Both my husband and I have had no rise in pay. Husband for 3 years, me I have just gone through a job evaluation with Highland Council and have been given a "pay cut"!!!!!! More price hikes are crippling us severely. It is long high time this Government was booted out by the British public. They did it to Heath why not do a no confidence and bring this Government to their knees. The mess this country is in must be the laughing stock of the world. We used to rule the waves, now we seem to be sinking.

Posted by Brycie Grigor, 18th March 2009 6:28pm

With the electricity and gas companies still charging very high prices for their supplies and now we have the latest rises in council tax and water rates, which will add about another £15.00 per month to my living costs from next month, how does Gordon Brown expect pensioners to manage who do need to use a car due to poor bus services.

We are now getting smaller amounts of interest on our savings, due to all the banking problems, so I will not be able to afford to use my car as much as before.

The sooner we have a general election the better, as it can not get worse !

Posted by Neil Edwick, 18th March 2009 6:28pm

Just DON'T vote LABOUR, give your vote to the looney party, or anyone but not LABOUR. We must all be mad in this country which I was so proud off but not any longer. Just look at Australia and see how it prospers and what are we in doing! slipping further and further in to debt.

Posted by John Frederick Smith, 18th March 2009 6:28pm

This is lunacy and a completely unfair tax rise when so many are facing hardship.

Posted by James Moscrop, 18th March 2009 6:28pm

Surprise surprise! Fuel is going up again, why was I expecting Gordon Brown to keep his word? He needs more of our money and the motorist is an easy target. Fuel duty, bus lane cameras, parking charges/fines, the law abiding motorist is an easy target and none of these measures is to ease congestion, reduce CO2 emissions or encourage the use of public transport it is raising revenue. No doubt the retailers will find a "good" reason to increase their margin too! Plus ca change.........

Posted by Michael Bayley, 18th March 2009 6:28pm

I'm affraid Brown has destroyed this country by incompetance and lies, assume this extra duty is to pay the conmen bankers, no wonder we're a laughing stock to the rest of the world................................

Posted by Granville, 18th March 2009 6:28pm

let me see the price of fuel is going up again.

way i see it is fuel goes up, leaves me with less in pocket to spend at the shops, the shops close, people get sacked, treasury pays benifits ect. treasury has no money left so they put fuel up again.

i ca see a pattern here!!

so how about they help me spend money in the shops better for most people all round!!!!!!!!

Posted by Chris Mccall, 18th March 2009 6:29pm

Yes, we all know not to believe words that spew from a politicians mouth and this is a case in point and it ain't no surprise now is it.
What really riles me is that we, as the British public will moan until the cows come home but we will then accept it and pay it. Our nearest neighbours, the French would not do this. No, instead they would probably burn all the politicians in the streets and would not put their matches away until their government backed down and stopped ripping them off.

So, isn't it about time we English dug our fliipin' heels in about this? Pass me the Swan Vestas...

Posted by Karl Sumner, 18th March 2009 6:29pm

Its the same old story, rip the British driver off. I am sick and fed up with Governments using the drivers of this country as a tax collection vehicle, and there does not seem to be anything that one can do except stop motoring?

Posted by David Moore, 18th March 2009 6:29pm

We are being hit in the pocket in two ways again. First the fuel prices went up last year and so did consumers goods to meet it. Then it went down after Christmas slightly but consumer goods didn't go down as much. NOW they are going to raise the fuel costs again. So I suppose this means consumer goods will go up EVEN MORE? What a fiddle! We are being stung on all sides...

Posted by Anne Elibol, 18th March 2009 6:29pm

As if we dont pay enough duty on everything we buy, in this current economic climate, WHY OH WHY are they putting it up again. It should come down and help the recession, they will sell more for cheap than less for more.

Posted by Gary O'neill, 18th March 2009 6:29pm

at a time when people are already finding their wallets stretched this is just too much. Already the prices are creaping slowly back up to £1.01 where I live... come on give us a break somewhere.

Not many companies will give even basic cost of living salary increases this year... so purses are going to be stretched tighter and tighter.... the government should keep their word and not increase

Posted by Karen Vincent, 18th March 2009 6:29pm

we should have expected this from this government, like has been said before they can't open their mouths without spurting out lie after lie, there will be a point sometime when people just won't be able to afford the fuel prices demanded then where will all the taxes come from, this government along with the bankers are all a load of |w*nkers

Posted by Mark Reed, 18th March 2009 6:30pm

As an accountant, I am continually amazed at the government's poor budgeting and dubious prioritising. Again the tax payer is being penalised for the government's lack of basic financial management skills.

Posted by Claire Heron, 18th March 2009 6:30pm

you know what they say, you can tell when a politician is lying, his lips move. How come the government rub their hands together and say there is nothing they can do about fat cats who have ruined the banking system through their greed, but can screw the ordinary man in the street for the last pennies in his/her pocket.
The only problem is all the political parties would do exactly the same.

Posted by John Richardson, 18th March 2009 6:30pm

We're not supposed to be sponsoring the rescue package for all those poor banks, are we? Whatever title you think up for it, a fuel price increase hits everyone who travels.

Posted by Jim Reynolds, 18th March 2009 6:31pm

Disgraceful. I like the idea of nobody buying fuel for a week in protest

Posted by Margaret Duffy, 18th March 2009 6:31pm

I think it's ridiculous that fuel should go up again. In this day of the credit crunch, the Prime Minister should be helping us, not taking more from us.

He has broken his promise twice and I think that is cause for a complete lack of trust in him.

I am only just making ends meet and a vehicle is essential to me. I will have to cut back on something else, like food for instance, so that I can be mobile.

Shame on you Gordon Brown

Posted by Lyn F, 18th March 2009 6:31pm

This increase in tax is appalling. Brown is devious and dishonest. This will affect bus companies, deliveries, large companies and small traders etc and push up the prices across the board. We will not only have to pay increased prices at the pumps ourselves but also for any services that we use that rely on fossil fuels.

Posted by Julia Coomes, 18th March 2009 6:32pm

With this PM all promises are there to be broken. As long as he gets it published he thinks we will forget it. We are not fish who forget in seconds.
We will never forget. Especially fuel hikes
Why is diesel so much dearer than petrol. It never used to be . It must be cheaper to refine........ Roll on the General Election.

Posted by Robert George Dodds, 18th March 2009 6:32pm

Unbelievable - or rather knowing just how little we can believe that comes out of Mr Brown's mouth it's actually very believable!! This government have not only sucessfully desimated what remains of our savings and pensions in their inability to forsee the global monetary situation or setting aside anything in the "good years" they are now actively taking more and more away with each day that passes. Obviously a "full year" in politics is less that the 365 days that the rest of the world recognises as a full year!!!

Posted by T Foot, 18th March 2009 6:32pm

You ask us to vote on whether the Budget has been postponed for petrol-rise reasons. I have voted "Yes". But that is only one of the reasons for the postponement. Our masters in Westminster have been advocating all sorts of panic-measures now that the capitalist system has let us down (again!).

The upping of fuel prices will allow the big boys to put up their prices to us, the consumers, and blame their increased profits on the extra tax on fuel. We are already being conditioned, by a governing party which once had Socialist members, to get into borrow cash to get out of debt. Whatever next? We must protest as loudly as possible - before the right to protest is taken from us.

To Shaun Butler, number 55 - to improve an impoverished country you provide economical transport and communication and things start building from there. To impoverish a country you tax transport and hinder communication so people cannot afford to go to the jobs to which they are most suited and instead they take more menial low paid jobs close to home which they are not suited for and which causes dissatisfaction and stress for them and others around them because they are not happy.
